Beaujolais is a region of wine and culinary traditions. This region, very close to Lyon, is known by all for its famous wine, Beaujolais, declined in a dozen wines and of course the new Beaujolais, tasted simultaneously around the world from the third Thursday of November. But beyond this festive wine, this territory is full of history and tourist attractions.
The history of Villefranche-sur-Saone, capital of Beaujolais, dates back to 1140. The lords of Beaujeu create the city on a marshy plain to protect themselves from the archbishops of Lyon. Its name comes from the creation in 1260 of a charte de franchise to the city that facilitates the installation of new inhabitants called since then the Caladois.
The opening ceremony

It will be held in Salle des Echevins. This former room which was part of the Hôtel-Dieu, beautifully renovated, is accompanied by a beautiful chapel.
The tournament will take place at the Atelier, a former hall and sports hall of the city, renovated and reopened in 2006. Covering an area of 630m², the room is equipped with a large nave made of a metal frame.
The lunches will be held in the restaurant area of Lycée Notre Dame, located just in front of the tournament hall. The kitchen team will take care of local specialties. Beaujolais is indeed a terroir of gastronomic and wine-making traditions. We will also pay attention to our vegetarian friends by offering them adapted dishes.
